Taking Responsibility For Your Choices
If you follow any ‘spiritual people’ on Facebook, then your feed will be full of articles and quotes about the power of mercury retrograde, the alignments of the planets, the position of the moon and the impact the energy of these is having your life and the world around you.
Now I’m not saying for a moment that these energies don’t exist. Its great to have awareness of outside forces and how they may be impacting life on our planet. Its useful to understand that we are in a connected energetic world.
In fact, you can use this information to become more self-aware and empowered.
Or you can use it to justify your life as it is.
We’ve been become addicted to drama, learned to focus on the negative and to fear what we don’t understand. Its part of our core programming as a society to complain and to blame.
So when we hear about disruptive energetic forces, its easy to ‘blame away’ the things that aren’t working in our lives.
It’s a relief to shift the responsibility for our lack of action.
It feels wonderful to blame the planets (or our past) for our ill health, our unfulfilling relationships or our lack of progress in business.
Its ‘natural’ to fall into the habit of looking at outside circumstances to find a reason for our unhappiness. We tell ourselves there’s nothing we can do about those things. It’s not our fault.
The blame game is addictive. It plays into our desire for drama. We get sympathy from others. We feel validated and accepted. Complaining provides a connection to others. It feels good in the moment.
But when you’re alone and facing the reality of your life, it doesn’t feel so good anymore. No matter how justified the reasons, it doesn’t change the fact that you’re still unhappy, still unwell, still unfulfilled and still stuck.
We all have a story. Your current reality has been shaped by your responses to your experiences in the past. Your brain stores information based on what you saw and what you believed at the time. But there is always more information available than what we can remember. That does not make your experience invalid but it can allow you to take another look and see what else might be true.
The key to unlock the health and happiness you want to experience is already in your hand. Its labeled ‘responsibility’ and it has the power to transform your life. It can feel like a heavy key but the freedom on the other side of the door is lighter than air.
The best place to start is where you are right now.
Start to shift your focus to the way you react to situations and to other people. What emotions are you feeling? What is the action you want to take?
Pay attention to how your body reacts. Do you feel discomfort, pain or tension? Where do you feel it?
You can train your mind to release painful emotions. Put your hands on the part of your body that is reacting and imagine pulling the pain, discomfort or emotion out of your body. In your mind, hold it in front of you and start playing with it. Tear it, squeeze it, smash it on the floor. Do whatever is necessary to destroy the power of the emotion that caused the physical response. Image that its smashed into a thousand pieces. Pick up the pieces and throw them in the fire. Watch them burn until they change energy and become invisible.
When you do this, you release the energy of the emotion so that it can no longer harm you. Do this every time you feel yourself reacting to a situation. Do it when you feel the emotion of a remembered memory.
When you understand that the emotion you’re feeling is your response, you can choose to change it. You can choose to release it. You can choose to pick up the key labeled responsibility and use it to unlock the places where you’ve felt stuck.
You can create this powerful transformation at any time.
When you feel yourself wanting to complain or blame, remember that the key to the life you want is in your hands.
All you have to do is pick it up and use it ...
